My name is Dave. I was a racehorse. I started racing when I was one year old, I was very young and my bones were still growing. Normal horses are not ridden until they are four years old. I was very fast and successful. After I finished racing I became a schoolmaster horse for the trainee jockeys.

Finally, I came to Delta Blue Unicorns for rehabilitation. Racing was the only life I knew and I had to adapt to civilian life. I was put in a field and expected to eat grass: I race on grass: and my food comes in a bucket! I was most confused. I was expected to share this field with other horses. I found this very stressful as being an athlete I wasn’t very good at socializing. Then they took me into a round pen and wanted me to walk around in circles. What is the point of that? I am a racehorse and I gallop. My ulcers were bad and I became very grumpy and aggressive.

The nice vet came and gave me medicine and a special diet and I felt much better and became much happier. Now the small humans who come to the stables were allowed to play with me and give me treats like apples, carrots, Polos, and herbal treats. I didn’t know what treats were but I do now! Although I am not a big fan of carrots….. I can be ridden and mostly enjoy it as I like to have something to do.
